When she bites.....

Ok at first i thought it's weaning time.

But when i did some researches, i think i'm wrong!

If the baby is nursing properly, then we should not feel teeth, even if she has a mouthful of them. And it's physically impossible for baby to nurse and bite at the same time, because the tongue covers the bottom teeth/gum when baby is nursing.

So now, since sofea pun dah pandai try2 to bite, i think it's just teething. Dia dok syok nak experiment gigi dia tu.Haha.But to be honest, it HURTS!

I yelled out in pain a few times. Tapi bila tengok dia tersengih-sengih je lepas tu i rasa she's simply like to see my reaction. So based on suggestions i read, i always try my best to stay calm (tahan sakit ye)n simply stop the nursing session for a bit. If the 2nd time pun dia gigit juga, hmm i make a conclusion that she's not that hungry/may be in discomfort/feeling distracted.So terpaksa try and error la trying to figure out the reason. Ala, tapi bila jadi camtu, usually i opt for formula milk instead. Kalau dah swelling tu, no choice. Either BF or pumping session.

Sometimes, i gently pinch her nose closed to get her to open her mouth. Haha. Not that i'm cruel. It's a tip which i read online. It works although it hurts a bit.Huhu.

Looking at her pattern, she doesn't bite when she's BF during sleeping.(unconsciously). So i cuba juga BF masa dia tidur2 ayam tu..=p.

Bukan apa, many people think that when baby gets teeth and has the ability to bite, then the nursing relationship has ended. I pun mula2 ingat it's time to wean kot. But it's not necessarily true. Kalau the prediction is true then it's fine, but what if it's wrong? Kan dah rugi. Tapi lagi rugi kalau baby kena nursing strike due to mommy's strong reaction to her bite. Hmm that's y i skang cuba untuk tahan juga bila kena gigit tu even sakitnya kdg2 ya ampun!=p

So okla..talking about nursing strike, here are some info for sharing:

Sometimes the cause of a nursing strike is obvious, but other times the mother may never discover the reason. Some common causes for a baby to refuse to nurse include:

• mouth pain from teething, an injury, a cold sore, or a fungus infection, such as thrush,
• an ear infection, which may cause pressure or pain while nursing,
• pain while being held in the nursing position, perhaps due to an immunization or an injury,
• a cold or stuffy nose that makes breathing difficult while nursing,
• too many bottles, overuse of a pacifier, or frequent thumbsucking, which >may lead to a reduced milk supply,
• regular distractions and interruptions while nursing,
• an unusually long separation from mother.

There may be situations or actions on the mother's part that contribute to a baby's refusal to nurse:

• a strong reaction to a baby's bite,
• a major change in routine, such as moving or traveling,
• limiting and/or rigidly scheduling feedings,
• talking in a loud voice or arguing with other family members while nursing,
• overstimulation, stress, or tension from an overly full schedule or an upset in the home,
• repeatedly putting off the baby when she wants to nurse or letting her cry.

wow..i haven't written on here for almost a month.
well, i have a pretty hectic schedule lately.

a little update on me:

-my maid is still not here yet due to some reasons.
-i am a math & moral teacher now..;p (teaching form 3, 4 & 5)
-i'm looking forward to spend more time with my spouse.haha.
-in a process to restock my tudung...;p
-i miss cooking but no time to do so.sorry honey.huhu
-exclusive breastfeeding.my daughter is almost 4 months old now.i read the optimal duration of
exclusive BF is 6 months.so i'm trying my best here.
-menstruation not yet returned ( which is a good sign..;p)

oh how i love writing main points!coz i'm not very good at elaborating.haha.i'm not a poetic kind of person u see.i think i'm good at giving out points and patterns rather than using language to express and appreciate complex meanings.hehe.
i believe that i have developed myself quite well with logical-mathematical intelligence and naturalist intelligence. As far as i'm concerned, i'm pretty good at numbers and calculation (i love solving maths problems) and i love natures.i think that explains why i was majoring in biology and chemistry in the first place.

On the contrary, mylocx is a word smart, musical smart (plays musical instruments, quite aware of sounds that others may miss) and picture smart (spatial intelligence).haha.so he completes me.

oh why do i talk about intellligence here?
let's talk about birth control instead.

i suppose my birth control method for the time being is LAM (Lactational Amenorrhea Method).This refers to natural postpartum infertility that occurs when a woman is not menstruating due to breastfeeding. Exclusive breastfeeding has been shown to be an excellent form of birth control, but there are certain criteria that must be met for breastfeeding to be used effectively such as:

1. The baby is less than six months old
2. Menstrual period have not yet returned
3. Baby is breastfeeding on cue (both day & night), and gets nothing but breastmilk or only token amounts of other foods.

Mylocx is particularly concern about all this BF thing.hehe.He's been very supportive about the idea of exclusive BF.From my point of view, i don't really think it's easy if we're not well-prepared.(constant pumping, storing, etc)

Mylocx strongly disagree with hormonal birth control methods like pills, shots, implants etc.Dia betul2 taknak hormon bini dia ni terganggu.or berat badan naik ke apa ke.haihh orang laki ni.demanding tol.sayangkan suami turut2kan la.haha.So we opt for other alternatives like natural family planning and barrier methods.(bonus: LAM).

hmm enough of all BF stuffs.today is sunday.(happy mode coz cuti).Both of my sisters-in-law are staying at my house this weekend.Mylocx and i are planning to spend time together and doing what we really enjoy most--watching movie (sudah lama hobi ini terkubur).Hopefully my SILs are willing to look after sofea.
pagi ni derang nak pi mandi air terjun kat sg.gabai hulu langat since my house tak berapa jauh ngan hulu langat.tengah hari kang baru balik.so tunggu derang balik baru we all kua la nampaknye.hihi.

okie dokie.it's already 9 o'clock.bath time for sofea.she's playing with nadia after poo poo dengan begitu kuat sekali.harap x bocor la.huhu.Her developments so far:

-making sound like mmemmmmemmmmeemm without getting bored..;p
-trying hard to turning over.tapi xboleh2.haha.but she can roll from back to side.tengah mengiring-ngiring la skang ni.360 darjah pun dah pass dah.haha.
-giving good respond when people talk to her-smiles back, laughs back, talks back (emmeemmmemmemm)

jaundice n BF story

my BF room

hi.

hmm..setelah panjang lebar entry yang lepas, i nak sambung story after delivery plak.hehe.

oh ye.sofea tengah tidur..wan dia dodoi2kan.
Syiokla tu anak mommy.hehe. Hari ni sofea asyik meragam je. Biasala kot, umur dah sebulan. Hehe. Btw, memang bukan senang being in motherhood life ni. It's a continuous learning process and teaches me a lot about patience.

ok back to the story. At Ampang Puteri SH, we stayed in single-bedded room for 3days 2 nights. (package). Saje tak nak discharge awal2. kasi elok sket luka-luka tu n dapat rooming in dgn sofea.

I memang sgt exhausted after gave birth so i spent time utk relax2 sementara menunggu pihak nursery hantar sofea to my room.
Bilik tu bes jugakla..ada privacy. Mylocx tido kejap2 kat sofa, kejap2 kat katil ngan i..(kihkih). Bila bosan, i baca paper ke, tengok tv ke, main sms ke.hehe.

We have to go through tough times jugakla kat hospital tu...those sleepless nights memang menguji kesabaran. Maklumlah, jaga baby yg baru umur 1 2 hari. Memang hanya kami berdua saja utk jaga sofea.hehe.
Setiap 2 jam sekali kena breastfeed sofea. I memang penat sgt tapi demi baby, tak kisahla kan.

Unfortunately, on day 3, sofea kena jaundice and have to be warded. Bacaan agak tinggi (13).
Pendekkan cerita, 2 hari kena warded baru boleh discharge. Sofea tinggal kat nursery masa kena jaundice tu. Every 2 or 3 hours camtu, nursery call asking me to breastfeed sofea. So just imagine, memang tak lena tidur la kan malam2 tu. Memang dah takde istilah tidur nyenyak di tengah malam lagi even up until now. hehe.

I also experienced breast engorgement masa hari keempat kat sana. Sampai rasa nak demam gitu. So nurse kata there's no other way to treat it other than expressing the breast milk. Nurse pun bagila hotpack utk tuam and bile dah lega sket, i have to manually expressing it. Sebaikla nurse tunjuk the right way, so senang sikit. And kena continue tuam n express lagi. Bila area around areola tu dah lembut, baru boleh guna electric breastpump. Barula tak sakit part tu. Wahh bila dah keluar semua milk yg terkumpul tu rasa lega sangat. Barula i tau, kalo tak keluarkan susu yg dah beku and terkumpul tu, baby nak suck pun dapat sikit je. Kiranya tak cukup minum la.
Dan selagi tak dikeluarkan, selagi tula mommy akan rasa bengkak and sakit2.
Time tu adala 2 3 org mommies yg bengkak susu jugak. Jangan main2..breast engorgement sakit btol tau. Boleh sampai demam2. Ada kes lain plak kurang susu. Itu i tak sure cane nak treat. Kena makan kobis n lobak putih kot..and adalah some tips lagi. Kena rajin google la. hehe. So sapa2 yg nak breastfeed tu kena ready la mental n physical. hehe. Banyakkan membaca and bertanya.

Baby yg kena jaundice is advisable to drink a lot of breast milk. (kalo BF la). Sbb tu i have to keep on giving her as much milk as possible. Tapi masalahnya, baby jaundice ni agak lemah and selalu ngantuk je. So dia malas nak sucking walaupun lapar. Caranya?..kenala main2 skit, geletek2 skit, usap2 sket to keep her awake and minum byk2..;p Lama jugakla every BF. Selagi tak sampai 45 minit cmtu nurse advise suruh continue lagi BF. Challenging btol.

So after 2 hari Sofea kena warded barula boleh discharge. Lama jugakla kami berkampung kat hospital tu. Tapi selesa, so tak kesahla. Hehe. Keluar je hospital, we stayed for 1 night kat rumah mylocx's aunty. Esoknya barulah balik Sg.Besar.

So okla. i nak makan la. Lapaq! Oh btw, bear in mind, if u breastfeed ur baby, u'll be constantly hungry. Hehe. Tata.

p/s: BF mommies-buy disposable or washable breast pads. u're gonna need those!
