Sofea & allergy

oh sangat sedih!

last night lepas balik dari rumah Poksu & Moksu sofea developed a symptom like eczema. I felt pretty bad sebab kat rumah poksu we had pizza's for dinner celebrating me and Lisa's (anak Poksu) birthday.

tengah syok i dok makan pizza yg penuh dgn seafood tu, sofea pun merengek2 & nangis2 nak makan juga. i pun picit2 la roti pizza tu kasi hancur sket dan suapkan sofea.she wanted more and more. To be honest, i'm not very aware of baby's food allergies and all, so u can imagine la kan betapa syoknye i tgk sofea makan. tapi xdela banyak, just beberapa suapan je kasi dia rasa2 gitu je.

I fed her around 10.30p.m like that. and we all (me, sofea, mylocx n bibik) were going home around 11.30 p.m. tak lama lepas makan tu, sofea start la tergaru2. tengok2 cam ada merah2 and bintat2 around her eyes, neck, and legs. i first thought it was nyamuk or something coz nampak bintat2 cam kena gigit kan.

In the car, she didn't stop scratching her eyes, and forehead. i breastfed her until she fall asleep. sampai rumah dia terjaga. and what do you expect?..things were getting worse. makin tergaru2. dan masyaAllah, bintat2 makin banyak and semuanya jadi merah2.belakang telinga, tengkuk, kepala, pipi, dahi dan mata semua gatal2. her eyes were swelling pretty bad.

ape lagi.....! off we went to the doctor la. doctor said, memang allergy. maybe due to crustaceans (shrimp/crab)..seafood pizza remember? so doctor pun bagi ubat minum untuk alahan. first try sofea vomit. sian anak mommy. pastu doctor bagi ubat minum alahan + tahan muntah sekali. alhamdulillah sofea tak muntah balik. lepas minum ubat tu, memang nampak a lot of changes la. merah makin hilang dan sofea dah tak tergaru2 lagi. dalam kereta sofea terus tertidur. memang nyenyak abes. yela dah pukul 1 lebih dah time tu. doktor bagi ubat sapu, ubat minum tahan gatal & ubat minum alahan. he said, yg penting ubat yg minum tu. 3.5 ml for 3 times a day.

sofea bangun pagi ni around 10 a.m. penat sgt agaknya. plus mungkin kesan ubat tu juga. memang dah tak nampak langsung merah2 or gatal2 pagi ni. but kena continue bagi ubat for 3 days. tadi dia dah minum even mengamuk juga masa nak telan tu. sian dia..pastu tak lama tu tertidur. get well soon anak mommy! insyaAllah.

besides, i think it has to do with the tindik telinga juga kot. yela, luka kan baik around 1 month camtu. so kena la avoid makan makanan tertentu kan. i totally forgot about that. siap suap kasi sofea makan direct cam tuje. oh soooo careless!

advice for mothers, janganla main sumbat je makanan kat baby even though dia dah boleh makan solids. slowly introduce new foods kat baby. below is some info from wholesomebabyfood.com~

Common foods that, traditionally, should wait to be introduced to baby

until baby has reached a certain age
Please note "recommendations changed" or "unchanged" status considering new studies

Honey
(not an allergen but may cause botulism in infants under 1yr old)

After 1 year
recommendation unchanged

Peanut Butter

After 1 or 2 years*
recommendations changed
- from 6 months to 2 years

(Tree) Nuts
(also may pose a choking hazard)

After 1 or 2 years*
recommendations changed
- from 6 months to 2 years

Citrus or Acidic Fruits
Not an allergen but may cause rash & digestive upset due to acidity. Using a dash of lemon or pineapple juice in a whole fruit puree is NOT the same as giving a baby pureed or sliced oranges, pineapple et al.

Just because a fruit, like tomato, is not in the citrus family does not mean that it is not acidic.

After 1 year
recommendations changed
- from 6 months to 12 months

Raw Strawberries, Raspberries, Blackberries - learn about why processed strawberries may not pose an allergy risk

(Blueberries and Cranberries
are NOT included in this)

After 1 year**
recommendations changed
- from 6 months to 12 months

Corn
(possible allergen and not very nutrient rich)

After 1 year
recommendations changed
- from 6 months to 12 months

Egg Whites
(many pediatricians will say it is fine for an older infant to have baked goods that include whole eggs)

After 1 year
recommendations changed
- from 6 months to 12 months

Whole Milk - as a drink
Lactose and milk proteins may cause allergic reactions and may also cause tummy troubles as they are hard to digest - yogurt and cheese are exceptions. Milk also hinders proper absorption of iron; iron is crucial during the 1st yr..

After 1 year
recommendations unchanged

Wheat
Many suggest that for the infant who has had no issues with gluten in Oats and/or Barley, and who has no history of wheat allergy or gluten intolerance, that offering wheat products (such as wheat toast) is fine around 8+ months - Read more at our topic Wheat for Baby

After 9-10 months or 1 year
recommendations changed
- from 6 months to 12 months

Grapes
(not a high allergen but may pose a choking hazard - use extreme caution if offering your older infant or toddler grapes)

After 10 months or 1 year **
recommendations unchanged

Shellfish/Crustaceans
(may be a high allergen)

After 1 or 2 years ***
recommendations changed
- from 6 months to 12 months

* Peanuts and Tree Nuts have varied age recommendations for introduction. Typical ages for introduction are:

  • After One (1) Year for the Non Food Sensitive/Non-Allergic Child;
  • After Two (2) or Three (3) Years for the Food Sensitive/Allergic Child.

Some Medical Authorities even suggest holding off Peanuts and Tree Nuts until after Seven (7) Years old. You should introduce these items with the consultation and recommendation of your baby's Pediatrician.

note! Recommendations for introduction of peanuts and tree nut have changed to anytime from 6-12 months. Please ask your pediatrician as reactions to these food items may be deadly.

** Strawberries Please note that the current recommendation for introducing strawberries was after a baby has reached 12 months of age. Commercial Stage 2 baby foods contain strawberries because it is said that processing strawberries at such a high temperature "kills" the protein that causes the allergic response. Visit our Strawberry page to learn more.
note! Recommendations for introduction of [fresh] strawberries have changed to anytime from 6-12 months.

** Grapes are not a high allergen but may pose choking hazards. Visit our Grape page to learn about ways to safely offer your baby grapes.

*** Shellfish/Crustaceans introduction depends on a baby's history of food allergies as well as the family's history of food allergies.
note! Recommendations for introduction of fish and shellfish have changed to anytime from 6-12 months. Please ask your pediatrician as shellfish reactions may be deadly.

No! esok kerja!!! Ya Allah please give me strength!

Hi Effa. Waktu Sarah allergic dulu pun, Angah risau giler.. Ni semua jamu and susu kambing punya pasal. Marah meluap2 la time tu :P Ruam naik kat badan and muka dia, gila sedih tgk Sarah.. Dah la baru nak masuk sebulan. Alhamdulillah skrang ni, she's getting better. Paed ckp dia allergic dairy product, tapi Angah suspect jamu is the culprit.

Hopefully Sofea will get well soon. Take care!!
